Yeah yeah yeah, Veronica Del Rosa (aka the Slightly Deranged Author) is a good friend of mine, blah blah blah, assume I'm biased if it makes you deliriously happy, blah blah blah, I don't give a fish what you think anyway, blah blah blah. This short story right here? Doesn't sound like much, huh? I'm even willing to bet you Little Barnacles think this is naught but one of those silly PNR novels I mistakenly enjoy when in a subaquatic alcohol induced stupor. Or when the Fluffy Siberian Bunnies (FSB™) hold a glue gun to my lovely little head. Well you know what? Ha! That's right, HA! Because this seemingly insignificant story here? It just beat the bloody shrimping crap out of those freakingly infuriating PNR tropes. ¡Viva la revolución, mis Minúsculos Decápodos!Oooh yeah, the girls are definitely wielding the guns in this one. Run, you Ridiculously Ridiculous Patronizing Macho Men (RRPMM™), Run!Welcome to Reverse PNR Troping 101, my Comely Branchiopoda! Whereby the gloriously acerbic, antisocial, condescending heroine treats the absurdly self-satisfied, arrogant smartass of a hero like a piece of meat, uses him for sex, objectifies him, and generally demeans him. Scrumptious gender role reversal, anyone? Bloody shrimping hell, it was high time someone took some of those suicide-inducing PNR tropes and shred them to tiny little pieces! So here we have Zephan, a demon assassin with delightfully serrated teeth. His mission is to kill Kendra, a human scientist who is developing a virus to weaken werewolves' regenerative abilities. Or so this overbearing know-it-all of a Neanderthal thinks. As exasperatingly full of himself and self-righteous the poor guy is, I have to admit I feel kinda sorta sorry for him. I mean, the way Kendra treats him like crap from the very start is nothing short of magnificent. She doesn't put up with his Pathetic Macho Man BS (PMMBS™). She is aggressive and opinionated and unflappable and combative and super smart and never surrenders and can't keep her big mouth shut and it's dazzingly marvellous. Go Miss Piggy, go! You show poor Kermit the lowly males feminism is not dead! But you know what really is Truly Sublimely Sublime (TSS™) here? Kendra only wants Zephan for his body, not for his brain! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. She's attracted to him but keeps treating him like a pathetic lowlife! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Take that you, RRPMM™! How's that overinflated ego of yours doing, by the way? Not hurting too much I hope? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Bloody shrimping hell, this is so bloody shrimping scrumptious I feel like sacrificing a whole tribe of disgustingly cute fluffy bunnies in honor of the Deranged Author's Glorious Greatness (DAGG™)! Because by writing this slightly wondrous little story here, she avenged hundreds millions of belittled, despised, mistreated, humiliated, demeaned, and generally objectified female PNR characters. And that, my Lovely Arthopods, is somewhat orgasmic. And makes me want to dance. Obviously.Yes, my Little Barnacles, you can call yourself a feminist AND wiggle your shapely assets for all to see.» And the moral of this Veronica Del Rosa Undoubtedly is the Ultimate Queen of Don't Kill it with Fire PNR (VDRUitUQoQKiwFPNR™) is: it seems that not all PNR authors are infuriating harebrained twits who love nothing better than to harass and abuse the female gender, thus turning me into a homicidal maniac. Will wonders never cease?» And the other moral of this VDRUitUQoQKiwFPNR™ is: ♫ Sisters are doin' it for themselves ♫ARC kindly provided by the Slightly Deranged Author in exchange for an honest review.✎ Book 1: Magic Resistant - Veronica said I shouldn't read it. So I didn't. Go me.✎ Book 2: Sylvia's Torment ★★★★✎ Book 3: Dawn's Keeper ★★★★✎ Book 3.5: Assassinated Love ★★★✎ Book 4: Chained in Desire ★★★★✎ Book 4.5: The Love of a Good Fae ★★★★✎ Book 5: Poisoned Message ★★★★★[Pre-review non sense]Know what that Most Melodious Sound (MMS™) is? Freaking PNR tropes being slightly manhandled, tortured, crushed, skewered, chopped into tiny littly pieces, and fed to the murderous crustaceans. Somewhat glorious this is. Veronica Del Rosa, I thank thee and shall forever be full of grate. This momentous event definitely calls for The Infamous Broccoli Dance. And for a Swimming with the Fist Dance, too.Yeah, this story is that glorious.►► Full Veronica Del Rosa For President Crappy Non Review (VDRFPCNR™) to come.

Kendra and Zephan, a brilliant scientist and the assassin meant to kill her, have a great dynamic and personalities I've not really seen before. Their unique character traits were a welcome surprise in a genre that can see a lot of the same. And Zephan was damn funny. I guess I have a thing for hawt snarky demons with deadpan delivery. Who knew?! Kendra is awesome as well--one of those relatively few heroines in the PNR/UF genre who manages to be badass without physically kicking ass. Her brains and BS-free attitude had me crushing on her just like Zephan was. What about their chemistry? I'll just say it comes at you quick and hard. ;)Dabbling in Magic is another sexy, fast-paced, solid novella in the Enforcers and Coterie Universe.

3.5 StarsA great little read full of magic, demons, mages and suspense. I haven’t read any of the other books in this series and I was not lost at all. Loved both the hero – strong possessive alpha demon, and the heroine – feisty and strong scientist. The ending was a little rushed considering everything that went on before it and the steam factor, while hot, seemed rushed as well. Of course, it is a novella so it’s almost impossible to have it all. I would definitely enjoy more from this author.Dual POVSafeNo apparent triggers

5 starsOkay, I kind hate to admit this, but I think this MIGHT be my fave Del Rosa book ever (sorry, Elijah and Dawn! .It was all Zephan's fault. Though Kendra is hardly blameless. One of the best things about this writer is her strong, sassy, take-no-shit female leads. Kendra is no exception. She does NOTHING the way Zephan expects her to and that is a hard pill for our sexy demon assassin to swallow. Though maybe not as hard as falling for the prickly, nerdy scientist he's been ordered to kill. This book was fantastic from the get-go. Kendra pulls something on Zephan in the very first scene that had me howling. (Not to mention it was hot as HELL) From there the book just gives you one awesome PNR ride to the very last page. I don't think I lifted my eyes from my Kindle once. Of course, I could complain about that, since this tasty bite is a short one. But since it is labeled a novella, you gotta expect that. Maybe not be happy about it, but....yeah. I could have read a hundred more pages about these two. I guess I'll just have to content myself waiting for the next full-length novel in the Enforcers & Coterie series. (A little birdie told me it features Nicor! *sqee!* Get cracking, Del Rosa or I might just have to pull an Annie Wilkes on you. ;)

I haven't read all of the Enforcers and Coterie books, but I really enjoyed Zephan and Kendra's novella. I'm all about possessive, alpha males and that describes Zephan to a T. He had his sweet moments as well, especially for a demon. Kenda was feisty and a good match for him!

Dabbling in Magic is an amazing novella written by Veronica Del Rosa. Ok I admit, I am a complete fan of this author and read every single book in this "series" and I am not shocked to write that this one is yet another fantastic one. Dabbling in Magic focuses on Zephan and gosh who knew that demons can be adorable? Well I had no idea and I came to like a demon in this story. Kendra sure gives him a run for his money and she is quite the strong character which let's face it, there are never enough strong female characters. I like the neat little twists that are hidden in "their" story and love how the author tied this story into the "main" story. The beauty of this series is, that you don't have to read the entire series, but trust me you will want to. This series has it all, romance, action and lots of paranormal. There is an underlying plot that continues throughout, so yes for that it helps reading it all since you get bits and pieces throughout, but each book stands on its own.

** I received an ARC of this book for free in exchange for an honest review.**'Dabbling in Magic' completely blew me away. I did not expect the story to pack so much. For a novella it held quite an intense storyline. I fell in love with the 'Enforcers and Coterie Series' from the first book and I'm still in love with it. Definitely one of my favorites. The characters are super intense, in a good way. Kendra is a total bad-ass that doesn't take $hit from anyone. I love her strength. I also love that she has boundaries when it comes to her work. Zephan is such a great bad-ass. He is definitely blindsided when it comes to what he thought he should expect from Kendra. I think they both met their match. There was some sexy hot and steamy scenes that rocked. I can't wait to read more. Definitely a must read.

Quick short read. I was not sure at the beginning, but as the story got going it became very suspenseful. If you need a quick read this one would be good if you love demons and more. This is the first book I read in the series. I will say I did not like the Epilogue it left you lost and I don't know if it will take up in the next story or not. This is one of the main reason I only gave it a 3 star. It said it could be read as a stand alone but this just left you questioning everything. I received an arc copy for my hones review.

Bad SituationThis book was short and I thought it had the potential to be a lot more. It not that I felt cheated it’s just that I wanted more .Zephan is a hired assassin looking for his next mark. Kendra is a scientist works for a company but she has a hidden agenda.I have read and voluntarily reviewed this book received from the author without obligation to do so.
