Jack and Annie's last adventure was on the summer solstice. Now it is the first day of winter and Merlin sends them on a journey, along with friends Teddy and Kathleen, to the Land Behind the Clouds, an icy, frozen place. As it turns out, an Ice Wizard, the Wizard of Winter, actually tricked them into coming on the journey. He has enchanted Merlin and Morgan le Fay and he wants the children to recover his lost eye. If they bring it back to him, he will return Merlin's Staff of Strength to him.The Ice Wizard gives them a wind string to help them on their journey to find his eye. They must follow this rhyme:. . . Take my sleigh and find your wayTo the House of the Norns in the curve of the bay.Pay them whatever they tell you to payAnd brink back my eye by break of day . . . The wind string produces wind when you untie the knots on it, and slows the wind down when you tie a new knot in it. So the children are able to control the speed of the sleigh. They encounter some white wolves which they try to outrun in the sleigh. They find the Norns, who are the Norse equivalent of the Fates. They are busy weaving lives. From the Norns, the children learn that the Ice Wizard had a sister who loved him very much but they had a terrible argument and she left to become a swan maiden. They have been parted for many years and that is why the Ice Wizard is so unhappy. The four friends must journey to the Hollow Hill where the Frost Giant lives to recover the Wizard's lost eye. Annie pays the Norns with the scarf around her neck and they children head off to find the eye. There is a lot of action, and the wolves show up again, but they do find the eye and get back to the Ice Wizard in the nick of time. The Ice Wizard becomes very angry when his eye doesn't work, but then Kathleen shows him that she has found his sister! He is so happy that he starts to cry and he can then see clearly from his eye. The Wizard gives the Staff of Strength to Jack and tells Jack to call for Merlin and Morgan. When he does, the wolves turn into Merlin and Morgan!I really liked this one. There were lessons about love, loyalty, forgiveness, faith, and courage.Borrowed this from great nephew Drew's library.

This book was amazing ! A brother and sister named Jack and Annie was going on an adventure. They both need to save Merlin and Morgan from the evil ice wizard. It was early in the morning when Jack and Annie woke up. They both got up and headed into into the frog creek woods so they can go into the magic tree house. They went into the magic tree house and found a book on the floor. It said, the magic ice kingdom. Jack and Annie said that that is where Morgan and Merlin is located. They both wished to go to the place that Morgan and Merlin is. They perched upon a small tree, and around that tree is icy water. They both found a small wooden boat on the land. They went inside it and rowed to the other side. The other side was all snowy. Then, they both found a boy and girl that are jack's age.the boy was named teddy. Teddy helped Jack and Annie reach the ice kingdom, because teddy was Morgan's assistant that also wanted to find her. Teddy took Jack and Annie to the castle. They all snook in and found Morgan and Merlin in the dungeon. Jack and Annie found the key to the dungeon on a sleeping guard and let Merlin and Morgan out. They both said thank you to Jack, Annie, and teddy. Merlin was able to return home on the magic tree house, and Morgan too. Morgan was happy that they got to save her and Merlin with out getting caught. Now, Jack and Annie are very close to becoming master librarians. THE END

Norse mythology, yay! But I don't think my little guy even knew that; when I mentioned that Osborne had a book of Norse mythology a few weeks ago he didn't know what that was. I enjoyed the four adventures into the world of myth and magicians. It was a fun change of pace.

This book is so boring to read. But the pictures and the cover page was nice. It attracts me when i saw the book, but after reading the book I realized it was boring. But the first 2 chapters and the last chapter was interesting, but at the middle it slowly started boring.

The Ice Wizard has tricked our stalward heroes Jack and Annie into finding his missing eyeball in their strangest (and goriest-sounding) adventure yet! How will this end? Personally I'd "give my right eye!" OOOPS! Keep it here, fans, until magic number 33!

I loved this series as a kid. It was one of the first things that really got me into reading. I thought it might be interesting to reread this book, since it was one of my favourites from the series when I was a kid. Also, I'm doing a readathon and this is short, haha. This book was still really fun and engaging. If I ever have kids, I'll definitely read this series to them.

This was my read aloud book for the past two weeks and the kids LOVED it. Anytime I started it they would immediately get quiet and listen intently. Plus, eyes being out of people's heads just kind of fascinates kids who are also currently obsessed with mummies.

I liked this book because it was very exciting and Morgan and Merlin were there and they were the wolves all along. I also liked the Norns.

This book is amazing! It's about two kids and they are brother and sister. There names are Jack and Annie. Merlin and Morgan gives them missions to complete so they can be master librarians.Anyway, this book is about a brother and sister named Jack and Annie. This book is number 32. The book is about a brother and sister. They went on a mission to find the winter wizards eye so they can free Merlin and Morgan. The winter wizard sends them to find his eye from the frost giant. If they look at it they will freeze to death. They go to the Norns and they tell them where the winter wizards eye is.The winter wizard gave them a sleigh so they can get the eye more faster. The winter wizard tells them beware of the frost giant but they don't know that it is real, then he tells them another lie that the white wolves are going to eat them if they don't hurry. They go to the frost giants house or the place where he lives. They go to the frost giants home and Annie finds a hollow in The icy ground and she found the winter wizard eye! Then an avalanche comes while Annie as time to put the eye inside her pocket. They get washed away by the avalanche but they are lucky to survive. Jack wakes up and sees wolves sniffing at them both.Jack throws a snowball at them so they can go away, but they don't know that they are Merlin and Morgan yet. Finally the wolves go away. Annie wakes up from being consous. Jack tells her that there was wolves and he let them run away. They get into the sleigh and they untied 4 knots and the sleigh moved faster and faster. When they arrived the sleigh stopped and they wanted to look at the eye before giving it to the winter wizard. They both run in the palace of the winter wizard and they found him in his throne patiently waiting. They give him his eye and he put it into his black dark hole with no eye. He can't barely see with it then he starts yelling angrily before he can say his last sentence Teddy came in with Kathleen and the winter wizards sister. The winter wizard is surprised to see his sister inside his palace. He happily greets her and frees Merlin and Morgan. Morgan and Merlin tells Jack and Annie that they were the white wolves. Jack and Annie were surprised! They told Teddy,Kathleen,Morgan and Merlin about there adventure. Finally they return home and Jack and Annie get to drink hot cocoa at their warm house and when they first entered their home Jack and Annie found Annie's scarf that they gave the Norns. M. And that is what the book was about.

In the Magic Tree House book Jack and Annie are sent on a journey with their friends Teddy and Kathleen. Merlin sends them to the Land Behind the Clouds, which is a very frigid, frozen place. They don't know it, but the Ice Wizard tricked them into this journey. He cast a spell on Merlin and Morgan le Fay. The wizard wants the children to find his eye. If they find it and bring it back to him he will give Merlin his staff back. On their journey the encounter wolves, Norns which are the equivalent of the fates, and a frost giant. The children end up finding the eye and getting it back to the wizard. They also found the wizards sister who he had been separated from for many years. The wizard was so happy he gave the staff to Jack. When Jack called for Merlin and Morgan the wolves turned into them.I really enjoyed reading this book. I haven't read a Magic Tree House book since elementary school, but I used to love them. They were some of the first chapter books that I was able to read on my own. I like that they have a few illustrations throughout the story. I think it makes it easier to envision the story that way, especially when you are first starting to read chapter books. It also helps that they are very well done and very detailed. In this book I really liked the illustration where Jack and Annie are caught in the avalanche. This story specifically is about loyalty and forgiveness which are two important topics I think children should read about. I would definitely have Magic Tree House books in my classroom library, if I taught third, fourth, or fifth grade.

This adventure chilled me from the imagery of ice and snow. It has that magical effect.I found it really cool that Jack and Annie had aged. I always wondered what that was all about, because some of the covers depict Jack and Annie being the same age, and some make them seem much older. In the first book, Annie was 7 and Jack was 8 and a half. Now, in book 32, Annie is 9 and Jack is 10.A nice 2 years have gone by, I love that, when in reality it has been 12 years. If the time of the book coincided with the lives of Jack and Annie, this is what it would look like:Jack would have been born in 1984, making him 20 at the time of this book, and he would be 27 as of 2011.Annie would have been born in 1985, making her 19 at the time of this book, and she would be 26 as of 2011.There is a lot of Fan Fiction of Jack and Annie's kids carrying on the adventures in the tree house, but I wonder what Mary Pope Osbourne will do about it. Personally, I would love for the series to carry on that long. The book itself was malicious and sweet. The fact that the kids were in search of an eye, I mean really, kind of gross and the author pin points the strangeness of it. None the less, the lessons in this book at warming at the core, kind of like freshly baked cookies.

"Hey, don't yell at my sister!" said Jack....Annie shivered. "I'm cold," she said."Here--take my scarf," said Jack.....How cute is that?! Those moments of closeness between Jack and Annie were what made this story great to me. Jack seems so be getting braver and braver the more he travels to Camelot. This story doesn't merely involve legends but carries very important messages about forgiveness and taking care of one's siblings and working together.I was surprised at the bit of selfishness the kids displayed when. they thought other children could find the tree house, but they figured out it was friends from Camelot and enjoyed their company. Kids shouldn't be that way, though. One of my favorite lines from the book was, "People often try to convince us that the world is scarier than it truly is," said Morgan. That is so true. Sometimes we let fear and the opinion of others stop of from moving ahead. Or are scared of small things. Like Jack, I am more afraid of things in the real world than in monsters or things I read about in books. But, we should still try to experience life. The world can be as wonderful place.

3.5 starsThis was only my second Magic Tree House book I've read, and I was a little let down after how surprised I was at how good the first one I read was.The illustrations were still fantastic as in the other one. However, the other thing I loved about that was that it seemed as historically accurate as is possible for a children's fantasy story to be. Perhaps it's because I accidentally read the author's note before reading the story that I was so disappointed. In that note, she mentions being inspired by Norse mythology as she wrote this, especially by Odin and the Norns. I suppose that, after that, I'd been expecting something rather more Norse-mythology-like than I got when I actually read the story.Jack and Annie were still delightful protagonists, ordinary children to whom the reader can relate, who can accomplish extraordinary things. And who learn about things like friendship and courage and trust and forgiveness.

Synopsis: "Jack and Annie, joined by Teddy and Kathleen, travel in the Magic Tree House to a land of snow where the Ice Wizard has captured Morgan and Merlin. The four friends must find the Ice Wizard's missing eye... or is it really his heart that is missing?"My Review: I really enjoyed this book in the series, more than the previous Merlin Missions books. I really enjoy how Osborne integrated so many Nordic myths into one smooth story. It is quite the adventure for Jack and Annie, with some help from Teddy and Kathleen, but the also need to rely on each other. This conclusion of this book also brings together the 3 previous Merlin missions and explains the connection of the 4 book set, so it is nice to see that the format of 4 book sets within the encompassing series will continue, even if it is in a little more of an obscure way.

Annie and Jack are sent to the Land Behind the Clouds, a land of ice by Merlin. However, it turns out the the Ice Wizard, the wizard of winter, had tricked the two into coming for a selfish reason. He sends the two off to retrieve his lost eye, in return for Merlin's Staff of Strength.I quite liked this book... I guess it's been a while since I've read anything from Magic Tree House. I'd seen the book, remembered how much I used to love the series, and picked it up. This is a pretty old book, and I love Annie and Jack. But my favorite characters would HAVE to be the Norns. They seem so derpy to me... I read to the end of the book hoping to see the Norns again but nooo, they only appear once.I recommend this to little kids, really. No one my age would really enjoy this book MUCH... But that's just my opinion~!

They went to a world in the clouds to save Merlin and Morgan. They had to save them because the ice wizard cast a spell on them so they were white wolves. I learned that Kathleen was a seal. So she could speak the selkie language. the norns told them a lot of stuff so they could find the ice wizards eyeball. Teddy and kathleen brought his sister back and they talked to each other since she was not there for years. To get the eyeball they had to go to the hollow hill where the frost giant lived. In that part they went into the hole and Annie stepped into a little hole and found the eyeball. I liked the whole story.

I think my standard review for the Merlin Missions will mostly be 3.5 stars. I like them, but it's tough when the person who is supposed to be enjoying them isn't quite at the age range. The original series was easier to read to a nearly 4yo. She's doing better with the Merlin Missions now, though; I think after we finally finished the Halloween story she realized that the scary parts aren't necessarily scary unless you let them be - interestingly, this particular story talked about fear of the unknown. All in all, I think when she's older, we can probably increase our rating on most of this series. She already loves them, when she's older, she'll love them more.

Interesting "Good Gal" take on Morgan le Fay. I always thought she was King Arthur's nemesis.Inside Cover: Merlin the magician and Morgan le Fay have mysteriously disappeared! To find them, Jack and Annie journey with their friends Teddy and Kathleen to a frozen kingdom of ice and snow. There they must go on a mission for the one-eyed Ice Wizard. Chased by wolves and braving terrible storms, they have only two things to help them -- a magic rope and the Ice Wizard's strange rhyme: "Take my sleigh and find your way, to the House of the Norns in the curve of the bay. Pay them whatever they tell you to pay. Then bring back my eye by break of day."

Jack and his little sister Annie are two regular kids from Frog Creek, Pennsylvania... until they discover a mysterious tree house full of all sorts of books. From that point on their lives will never be the same again! They soon go on amazing adventures (plus children are learning bits of history and most don't realize it) as they travel through time with the help of the magic tree house. The chapters are short with pictures every few pages, making these books perfect for the beginning reader.

This book is the fourth Merlin Mission book in the Magic Tree House series. We went from the Summer Solstice in the last book to the Winter Solstice in this book. My children enjoyed learning about that. There was a lot of really good imagery in this book. I also love that the Merlin Mission books in the series seem to have a lot of great symbolism and this particular one had an abundance of foreshadowing which is fun to teach my children about! This book was based on several Norse myths which we found fascinating since we have some Scandinavian descent. Fun read!

The Magic Tree House books are a MUST READ collection for all children. Unlike many other series for young readers, the Magic Tree House should be read in chronological order to best appreciate Jack and Annie's travels through time as they go on various missions; which are typically completed in four parts. Parents and educators will enjoy going along for the ride as much as their students! My daughter is a teenager now but she still gets excited when she sees a new tree house adventure has come out.

Jack and Annie went to another mythical place about an Ice Wizard north of the cove of the selkies. It was very icy and cold. They were looking for Teddy and found him. Teddy is a boy that accidentally turned into a dog. They found the Ice Wizard's castle made of ice blocks. The Ice Wizard wrote Merlin to give him back his eyeball. I liked this book because of the journey of finding the eyeball. There was also a surprise for Jack and Annie and two wolves that were Morgan and Merlin.
