I enjoyed Brothers in Arms because it was really touching and their was a lot of action. This book made me want to keep reading and reading. In this book there is a boy named Martin Luna. Martin's brother AKA "Huero" had a horrible tragedy. Martins mom moves to Bludford to save Martin from his brother's fate.I liked the book because it reminded me of my home in California.

First, I must say that this novel kept me awake at night. The violence described in this book is real, something I frequently see and hear in the suburb of Paris where I live. But, what makes this story beautiful is that, although the story is told along a line of seeking vengeance, the bottom-line of the story is transformation of Martin, the protagonist. What caught my heart from the beginning is this: Martin is aware that his way of dealing with his brother’s death is wrong; he wants to change, but his guilt won’t let him go, and the hostile environment at his new school doesn’t help either. This is the case with so many youngsters I know.I really liked the part when, on his way to his brother’s cemetery, Martin meets that woman in the bus, who is suspicious with him at first, but he makes a sincere attempt to ignore that silent insult and act civil by offering her his seat. The woman changes her attitude toward him, and this is a big confirmation for Martin! Then he writes the school paper, where his dead brother is the hero, and this wins him the heart of the girl Vicky, who sees his soul. Her confirmation of his goodness is so important to Martin that he refuses to fight with Steve Morris in her presence. And, I think it’s also under her influence that he spares Steve’s life. The best part is, of course, when Martin moves away from taking law into his hand, after the killer of his brother is located. He suffers harshly for it in the hand of his old gang-friend Frankie, but Martin sticks to his dead brother’s reflection on the futility of violence, and decides to give the killer over to the police.I so much wish there were examples like this in real life!!

Honestly this book is probably the best I've read! you can see the character development too! (view spoiler)[ in the beginning he just wanted revenge but at the end he gave it all up to make Huero proud in another way by finishing school by being a good guy and not going to (hide spoiler)] It was really nice to see how martin didn't stand for some kid beating him down and how he get's closer to an other character it's great!

This is the 9th book in the Bluford High series, and is about a boy who transfers to Bluford partway through the book. I picked up this book to see if it would be a good fit for a small book group of boys in ELD. They happen to be Latino and the book is about a Latino boy named Martin Luna. He deals with real issues for teens such as living in a single-parent household, conflicts with friends, and a realistic internal conflict about what he wants to do with his life. I had a general idea of how it would end but I didn't expect the specifics, and I thought that the ending was well done and really connected to the rest of the story. In the past I had been turned off by the writing style and quality of the Bluford High books but this one motivated me to give them another chance and I plan to read more of the others (I am a middle school librarian). I am definitely going to use it for the book group because the theme is relatable and it has a clear and direct story line without too many distractions along the way.

This book is about a young man who learns the hard way that being in a gang is not what he thought it would be. He also thinks his life is over when something bad happens and turns everything upside down. But then he moves and new people enter his life and he begins to see things differently.Martin Luna joins a gang and then his brother is shot by accident. Martin later finds out that Frankie, who he thought of as family was the real target of the gunman. Martin's mother fears losing another son to gang violence so she moves them to a better part of town. She thinks this will solve things but new problems arrive. This book is set in the 1990's. It is takes place in a city that has gangs in some areas and jocks in another part, which brings up issues when the two combine.I would recommend this book to middle and high school readers. It is very easy to read and it makes you want to keep reading to find out what will happen to the characters.

11/4/11Summary:I just started reading this book, and so far I'm liking it. Because I love Bluford Highschool Series Books and also because this book is interesting. This book is about a boy named Martin Luna whose brother passed away because of a shoot out some immature men had. He told his mother he was going to get revenge, she told him not even though she knew he wasn't going to listen to her. He still promised her she won't and is still trying to find who killed his brother who was so innocent. Response: - I think Martin should get revenge, but not causing for him to pay the consequences. Or maybe he should just leave it in god's hands and he will know how to give his enemy the worse punishment. Because even if Martin didn't deserve for his brother to pass way but everything happens for a reason.-An important lesson is appreciating the ones who appreciate you, because Martin's little brother looked up to him even he smokes, or did bad in school ect. and he still pushed him away not teaching him whats right from wrong. And now he can't take it back because Huero is gone.-----------------------------------------------------------------------11/11/11Summary: In chapter 5 Martin realizes and starts to picture more about why did they shoot Huero. He decided to cut class but he didn't plan it. He wrote on his notebook the night before but couldn't keep on because all he wrote about was Huero. And that's all he thought about. That morning when he had to head to school he went back to his hometown instead, where he lost his little brother. Martin met an old lady who lost her husband , while he went to the cemetery to visit Huero. Martin told Huero everything that has been happening since he left. And spent time with him on his grave. Later, he visited Frankie and the other boys. Frankie told Martin how he had guys after him, and Martin felt some type of way to find out that maybe it wasn't his fault that Huero had died. He started to puzzle Huero's death.Response: If I were Martin I would confront Frankie and ask him who where the people after him. And he should had told Martin about it so he could've been more protective of Huero.I learned while reading that Frankie is a smart guy, but he doesn't know how to avoid things by thinking about what can happen first. And this book made me realize how much you need a brother or a sister by your side, even if they can be the most annoying person in the world. You will still need them someday.

Have you ever lost some one in your life that you really cared about and kind of thought it was your fault?Well my book Brothers in arms is realistic fiction based on a topic that could possibly occur.I thought my book was very sad and kind of depressing because Martin looses his brother Huero due to martin being in a gang and Huero wondering what Martin is up to and it's kind of a struggle because of the fact that Martin and his mother have to leave their town and move to Bluford and meet new people and he misses his friends and has to deal with Steve who is a ''bully''.In this book the main character is Martin Luna a sixteen-year-old gang member who wants revenge for Hueros death. Martin hated that his little brother always followed him, but now that he is gone he regrets pushing him away. Martin seeks only for revenge. To pull him away his mother moves him to a new city. Their life turns into a big situation of disagreements,On the other hand there is his mother who disagrees and only wants the best for her last child.Martin is torn between staying at Zamora high-school or moving to Bluford. My book is person vs society because he has to deal with his mom and her decisions for him, and the people who killed Huero, and with Steve. The theme of this book is death ,grief and, anger. A major event that changed the character was when Huero was killed and they had to move away from his neighborhood to a place he didn't know any one and had to deal with his mom giving him stricter rules due to the incident that happened with his brother . My favorite part was when Martin stood up to Steve and was about to fight him but they both kind of laid off and left and the next day martin was late to class and Steve got in the conversation between Martin and the teacher and Martin was imagining him smacking a chair across Steve's face and imagining the face of him when the chair and Steve's face collided. In Conclusion,I would rate this book a 4 out of 5,I would recommend this book to any one who has experienced a loss in their life or who likes books with gangs or violence or just anyone who has experienced to try to fit in a new place. So how would you feel if someone murdered or hurt someone in your family and as a result in that you would have to leave your home town or neighborhood?

"Brothers in Arms" is a book by Paul Langan which tries to explain the lifestyle of present-day teen-age gangs. The story begins with Martin and his gang sitting on a curb, trying to pick up girls. His little brother, Huero, walks up to talk to Martin and he gets shot in a drive-by shooting. After the shooting, Martin's gang all decide they will find his brother's killer. His mother knows it would be bad for her last remaining son to stay in that neighborhood. She and a local cop raise funds to move to a safer part of town. They find an apartment on the other side of town. Martin is rejected by his piers at his new high school until he met a girl named Vicky. She's a good student and sees good things in Martin. One day Martin skipped school to go visit his brother's grave, and meet up with Frankie afterward. They talk about Martin not wanting to get revenge. Frankie finds the killer and asked Martin if he wanted revenge. Martin then realized that the killer wasn't after Huero, he was after Frankie and Frankie knew it. Martin went back to Bluford High School and tried to live a normal life, but will always remember Huero. The main character Martin starts out as a troubled gang member and progresses into a responsible young man. Frankie is truly a rough young man. He's well know and feared within certain groups. Huero was an innocent young boy who really looked up to his older brother until his own death. Martin's mother was a nurse with odd hours who does all she can to create a "normal" life for her family. Vicky was a very clean cut girl who was a good student and a good influence on Martin. The story takes place in Bluford, California in the present day. Part of the story takes place in the high school and part of it in the projects. The theme is that the people you associate with will have an impact on your life for years to come. It's best to choose your friends wisely. Martin's friends tried to lead him down the wrong path, but he made good choices instead. I would recommend this book to anyone in the age groups of twelve to eighteen. Be cause the reading level is fair for all ages and it has a good message to it.

The story is about a boy named Martin Luna. He notices his younger brother hiding by a garbage can. His brother followed him because he looked up to Martin. Martin saw him hiding and before he could do anything a car drove by and shot his brother. After that day his mother was very upset and wanted to get her family out of the neighborhood. They finally leave and transfer to Blueford High. He didn’t care to be there and didn’t go out of his way to make friends. He meets Steve who was in the same grade as Martin. Steve was strong, athletic and he intimidated others. Mr. Mitchell, his English teacher, confronts Martin about his anger issues. Steve had a smart-mouthed Martin in gym and end up getting into a fight. After gym class, Steve starts a fight and at first he doesn’t want to fight, but once he gets hit he beats up the other kid. The principal doesn’t believe Martin’s story because of his reputation. Martin discovers who the shooter was that killed his brother, and he doesn’t retaliate against the shooter because he wants to live the life his brother didn’t have. It ends with Martin telling the adults the full story about who the shooter is in hopes they would do something. The main character is Martin Luna. He is in a gang, lives in a bad neighborhood, and is 16 years old. He is a good kid, but is involved with bad people. There is also an athletic kid who causes a lot of problems for Martin when Martin begins attending Blueford HighThe setting of the story is in a bigger city in California where gangs are prevalent. The story takes place in modern time during the 1990s..A primary theme of the story is to make the right decision even when you are angry and want revenge. In the story Martin doesn’t seek revenge even though he is full of anger. Instead he eventually turns to adults in his life for help.I would recommend this book to high school students because they would be able to relate better to the story line. Martin is the main character, so boys would probably relate to him better than girls.

It was amazing. This guy named Martin Luna was the one of that boys who like to smoke and scared people when they see him and all that change when his little brother died on his arms.Someone who he didn't know or see him now his litle brother Huero died because he was in the wrong time and in the wrong place and he was so depresed and he want payback. Which way would he choices get revenge or moving foward in leave the path he star to get mad of himself because Martin and his mother move to the other side of the city and Martin stared to go to a new school and he can't stay away with his homeboys and he have to see them if them found the person who shot Huero.I like this book becauseits show you how things can changed in a second and yopu can't feel safety when you are walking down the street because its not a long secuty in the street and show you how can you do and that type of situation. Now that the BRother in arms series has finished , there is always the question of waht to read next .Now with the second parth the fallen its so amazing how Martin Luna figurat who's fault was and do the rigth thing and stay away from trouble and moving foward and forget the path. There are some similaries to the real life some story about people whop lose someone the you love. The action action in this book is sad and suspenful and i would recoment this book because it so good.

This book is very interesting, this is a book many people world wide would like. It's very interesting at the begging and leave's you with the mouth open at the end. It has very sad momment's with the charaters, and explains them very well. The book is about this one child name quero with an older brother martin. His life is changed and is going trough some rough time. He is always in trouble, till one day it all changed. Somebody has killed martin brother quero, so now he's in the look out for the killer. Him and frankie have been looking for him and they has a clue who it is. But the problem is that he's not the killer, its frankie. He has the gun and has lied to martin, just so he can hurt the people frankie don't like. He is in rage but in order for you know what happens next. You would have to read the next book, later you would know how he solve his problem.

Brothers in Arms was an amazing book! I enjoyed reading this book. There was a boy named Martin who was a thug. One day Martin was hanging out with his friend Frankie and his other homies. Martin's little brother, Huero, was riding his tricycle to go to Martin. Martin told him to go home, but when he was going home, some guys in a white car started shooting at them. Huero was going to save Martin but Huero got shot in the head. This was the saddest part of the book. But it will make you read it over and over and you will never get tired of it. I love this book!

Brothers in Arms by Paul Langan and Ben Alirez is a Historical fiction, this book is a not to easy or challenging but it is in the middle. The author Paul Langan has other books to like "Summer of Secrets" and more books. I think there are no other books that relate to this book because this book talks about how he was going thru life and what happened to his brother. Martin Luna is just 16 years old that hangs out with gang members. He has a brother named Huero, that follows Martin around where he goes. But Martin does want him following him because when he goes with his friends he does drugs and Huero is there with him. Huero is a nickname for a Spanish word, but his real name is Erick. Martin does not like Huero being there and he told him to go home. But one day they were hanging out and Huero was there with them and some people did a drive by, and a stray bullet kills Martin’s 8 year old brother Huero. Martin seems to be heading into a life of crime because of what happened to his younger brother. Martin’s mother then moves to a different neighborhood so she won’t lose another son. He also moved to a different school named Zamora High school. Martin quickly makes enemies and gets into trouble. He does not have a lot of friends but he makes friends with a kind English teacher. When entering the class in the first day of school he catches the eyes of a girl names Vicky, a smart, pretty and outgoing student. The author draws a affecting picture of Martin’s pain and confusion, when remembering his brother. Martin’s character is well drawn when he realizes the truth about his friend Frankie, his friend he used to hang out when he was living in his old neighborhood.

Brothers in Arms by Paul Langan is an unbelievably realistic book about our main character Martin Luna. The book starts out in present time, then Martin tells us the story of what led up to where he is now. Martin goes through his memory of the day his little brother died, his experience in school, and when he moves away from his "family". Martin is struck, torn between his two completely different lives, at his new school he is challenged with academic work and his own temper when people try to mess with him while at his old place, he had it easy, its easy to do bad things and he was well on his way to jail. Martin has a choice, to let his life be wasted or make his mother and younger brother proud, when he doesn't throw his life away. His mom and his teacher at his school, Mr. Mitchell encourage Martin, they believe in him to make better choices as, he is capable of more. Martin is angered but he will not let anyone know, so he takes it out on his easily made enemies, even though he was still going through the healing process of loosing his brother, there were friends too look out for him and tell him that is was not okay to make bad choices. Martin soon had a transformation. Through all his fights, his misfortunes, and behavior choices, he worked hard to make his little brother, Huero proud. I recommend this book who world like to read about transformational books.

"Brother in Arms" is a book about a character named Martin. He goes through some tough times being with bad friends and his brother dying in his arms. When his mother doesn't want to lose him either he moves him to a new school. This book is deep, and you can also tell that the main character is going through a lot of stress and pressure. Not only because of his brothers death but he also faces Steve a tall athletic guy who keeps making him get in trouble as well as trying to avenge him brother. When his friends find the guy who killed hiss brother he goes to try to kill the person. He then realizes that he needs to make his brother proud and he changes his life. I would recommend this book to people who likes the Bluford series.

Brothers in Arms is about how 2 brothers and how the little brother got shot because he always tried to follow the oldest brother. It was a sunny day when Martin got out of school his brother was hanging with his boys by there place and then there was a car that came out of nowhere and Martins brother told him to come back because he was supposed to home until someone in the car started shooting and killed Martin. Ever since Martin died Martins brother was so angry and he wanted to go back for revenge and he started going all out and then his mom kicked him out and came back the next day because he didn't want her to feel down without a son in the home.
