Lucian is after her, and no one seems to understand why. Loyalties are tested as the casualties increase, showing Eviana that sometimes it is impossible to delineate between friends and enemies. Betrayal(Source: I received a digital copy of this book for free on a read-to-review basis as part of the ‘Syrenka’ Series Blog Tour)This is Book 2 in the ‘Syrenka’ series, and starts a few weeks after the end of book 1 – Promises.Eviana has taken over as clan leader, following her parent’s death. She’s unsure of her new position, but doing her best; while trying to come to terms with the fact that her boyfriend Brendon is taking time away from her.Forced to prove her worth to the council by demonstrating her new found powers, Eviana finds herself shipped off back to Jeremiah’s house to learn about using her powers, along with the mysterious Graham, a British boy who was the youngest member of the council before Eviana and Kain joined. Eviana finds herself strangely drawn to Graham, even if he is infuriating at times, but has her doubts as to his loyalties. When Lucian starts attacking multiple mermaid clans, Eviana knows that she has to do something, but what can one teenage mermaid do against the sort of forces that Lucian has? And how many have to die before Lucian is stopped?I enjoyed this book. I love Eviana, and I totally love Kain. I really think that Eviana should have married Kain instead of running off with Brandon, although it is debateable as to whether things would have been different if she had. I found the surprise arrival of Graham to be interesting, but was a little disappointed that Eviana had feelings for him. She already has Brendon and Kain to think about, and in my opinion a third love-interest wasn’t really needed. I also was in two minds as to who Graham was and what his intentions were anyway.I have to say that I did see the twists in this instalment coming, although that didn’t ruin the story for me. It is pretty obvious that someone is going to betray Eviana from the title! Maybe a different title would have decreased the chances of me guessing the ending!Overall; this was a good second book, and I am looking forward to finding out what happens in the final instalment ‘Arise’!7 out of 10.

Amber Garr is taking the reading world by storm in her Syrenka Series. I just love mermaid and mermen stories and I absolutely LOVE this series. Amber has added some new twists and turns and has created a world where choices could and do equal consequences. Where love knows no bounds and will break you if your not careful. The best part of this world is that Amber gives her characters a voice of their own. They can decide what happens to them and they can choice who they are going to love but in the end the choices come with consequences.Betrayal picks up right where Promises ended. I have to say that when Promises ended I was just not sure what was going to happen in Betrayal and I was a little nervous to read it. Rightfully so because Eviana has lost her parents and her boyfriend Brendan. She is devastated and heart broken which is not a good combination to have. She really has no one but she sets out to prove that her and her ex-betrothed Kain can rule their people and take their rightful birthright that is trying to be taken from them.Lucian oh man my bad boy Lucian is up to no good in Betrayal. He is out to get Eviana and she still does not know why. He is intent on destroying the clans and ruling over the merfolk that are left. The saying divide and conquer came to mind when I was reading about him because he is determined to make Eviana's life miserable. I hope we get to see what his problem is in book three because he is one pissed off merman!Kain has decided to stick by Eviana even though he is still clearly in love with her. He is there for her when she has to train with a croutchey old merman and lord is hell bent on breaking her in. But Kain ever the love he is is there and to make matters worse Eviana has a new suitor in town Graham. GOOD LORD Amber are you trying to kill me with all these merman that are so SWOON worthy! In the end Eviana will have to fight real hard for what she loves and what she wants. I am not a fan of cliffhangers but the one in this book left me speechless and screaming for more. I need book three ASAP! I am so on the fence with which guy Eviana should be with that I have to see where Amber is going to take this. This is a MERFOLK MUST READ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Betrayal, the second book in Amber Garr's Syrenka Series, is a riot of emotion. The pace is just as easily flowing as book one, Promises, and captures the audience's attention just as well.Garr twists and turns the plot so that events become unpredictable and very telling. Eviana is trying to step up and show her clan that she and Kain are suitable leaders, even in their young age. Eviana's series of training, both physical and mental, aren't enough to prepare her for the truths she learns and the biggest obstacle set in her path, Lucian Sutherland. In between all mermaid matters is Brendan, the love of Eviana's life and selkie. Their relationship has become tenuous and heartbreaking, and is most likely the biggest unknown in the story. There's no telling what's in store for the two with so many reasons for them to not be together. While Betrayal is a great story, it doesn't seem to have as big an impact in the Syrenka Series for the second installment. The plot changing revelation doesn't come until the near end of the story, and everything before it is more of a way to build upon the fantasy world presented and back up the reasons why Lucian Sutherland is a formidable foe. The conclusion of the series, Arise, will hopefully be the ending of all endings!*ebook provided for review and blog tour purposes* Also posted on Lovey Dovey Books

THIS WAS SO SO MUCH BETTER THAN THE FIRST ONE. MY GOSH... THAT ENDING.. WTF??Cant believe it! I still hope she ends up with Kain but damn if Graham isn't attractive. And powerful. And loveable.. So much happened in this sequel, it's keeps you anxious right the way through. The best bit? Brandon was hardly in it, yay!

Betrayal is the second book in Ms Garr's Syrenka Series and picks up the story a few weeks after the end of Promises. Eviana Dumahl originally had two things in her future, neither of which she wanted: Leadership of her Clan and an arranged marriage with Kain Matthews who was the future leader of his own clan. Instead, Eviana only had eyes for Brendan, a selkie several years older than herself and the last person that her mother wanted her to be with - for more than one reason. On the evening before her scheduled marriage to Kain, Eviana and Brendan left for the East Coast and their one chance to be with each other. Now, Eviana has to deal with one of the things she least wanted; She is now the leader of her Clan. Her parents are dead; Killed by her real father in his quest to use the merfolk's special powers to dominate the lesser species of this planet. Notable amongst the potential dominees  are Selkies and Humans. The story opens at home on the Oregon coast with the Dumahl clan licking its wounds and bracing themselves for future onslaughts from Eviana's father, Lucian. Brendan is staying away for the time being and Kain is a frequent visitor at the house. Though her heart still belongs to Brendan, Eviana gets a somewhat giddy feeling whenever Kain pays her a compliment or simply pays her a bit of attention. In this respect, not much has changed since they were still promised to each other but the dynamic is going to change considerably when she meets a member of the merfolk's ruling council, Graham Forrester.Amber Garr has kept up the pace and dramatic tension in this second book of the Syrenka series. In the first book, Promises, things were a bit murky as the characters - and the reader - were trying to ascertain just what was going on. In Betrayed, the plot and the action is naturally much more straightforward as everyone seemingly knows the nature of the threat and whom is behind it. This does not mean that there are no twists, turns and surprises in the story's action because there are indeed a good many of them.Perhaps it is appropriate to mention here that Ms. Garr has done two things that this reviewer has seldom seen in this particular sub-genre of Young Adult Fiction. The first is that the mermaids seem not to suffer from body shame and will swim in their natural state as Poseidon intended. This reviewer has yet to meet a mermaid in the wild who wears a bikini top - or much else for that matter. The second is that Amber Garr has a unique solution for the problem of breathing under water. So just how do mermaids and mermen respire beneath the surface? Do they have gills, absorb oxygen through their skin, simply breath water or what? The presence of gills seems to be the most common solution though that presents its own problems as the single slit envisioned by many authors is much less than what is necessary to power homo piscis. A second popular solution is to simply have them breath water through their lungs. This approach has a basic shortcoming in that a lung-full of water is much heavier than a lung-full of air not to mention all of the microscopic nutrients and life that is found in sea-water. Ms Garr solves the problem in her world by giving merfolk much more efficient lungs and the ability to stay under water a good deal longer than humans can. This vision definitely has some merit as harbour seals can easily stay down for 30 min. and often head for the bottom in order to take a nap.Amber Garr has written an exciting and compelling follow-up to the first book in her series and it is well worth reading if you like the idea of merfolk. As it was in the first book, Promises, the Kindle version of Betrayal suffers from a want of proof-reading. This reviewer will not enumerate the grammatical and syntactical shortcomings of the Kindle edition. However, he will say that because of these shortcomings, the Kindle edition is not quite as good a read as it could be.Nonetheless, Betrayal is an absorbing and irresistible story which leaves the reader wondering what could possibly happen next. The final chapter answers that question quite well.

Eviana has had her eighteenth birthday, but with it came a whole new experience of life. After running away from her would-be husband Kain the night before their marriage to be with her selkie boyfriend Brendan, Eviana had a few weeks of happy bliss. Those few weeks were shattered when she and her boyfriend were attacked by a group of other selkies, leaving Brendan horribly injured and without his skin to change again. Like Mers, selkies need to transition into their other selves in order to keep living. Without his skin, Brendan was trapped in human form, getting weaker and weaker by the day as he wasn't able to be his seal/selkie self. In desperation to save his life, Eviana called the only person she could think of that could help her, Kain-the man she slighted in front of everyone by denying. Kain is, naturally, upset, hurt, and confused about what he's supposed to do in the wake of her leaving him with the mantel of clan leader to fulfill alone after the death of his father, but also at the battle waging inside of him as the girl he loves asks him for help. Cursing and hating the way things are, he agrees to come and try to help her out, but when he gets there she learns that their people are on the brink of war , her mother has officially shunned her, mer-people have mind-control abilities over humans, selkies, and other mythical water creatures that until now she thought were extinct, and there's a madman on the loose looking for her and willing to do anything or kill anyone in order to get his hands on her. After accidentally taking control of Brendan's mind (and several other selkies and humans) during a moment of high stress, things between them have become rocky at best and he's requested time without her in order to think things through. In the meantime, her parents have been murdered, the mantle of clan leader has fallen on her shoulders, and she has to step into her mothers all-too-big shoes to try and help prevent a full-out war from breaking out across the world. Kain, having established an alliance with the Dumahl clan even after she left him at the altar, stays by her side and they have to work together in order to plead with the mer-Council about the affairs of their people, the threats, and the murder now running rampant through the clans. As Eviana is trying to find reasonable and peaceful solutions to keep her clan and remaining family members safe, she is at war with her heart as she still loves and hopes Brendan will come back to her, Kian still shows her endless love, support, and understanding, and a young member of the council, Graham, vies for her attention as well. Will Eviana be able to control her new-found mind-control abilities and not enslave Brendan again? Will Kain and Eviana be able to find a way to make peace with the mer-people and avoid a war or convince the council that Lucian Sutherland is a madman that needs to be stopped at all costs? What about Eviana's love life, will her new position as a clan leader make it possible for her to be with Brendan or severe any remaining hope that their love could survive? What about the call that all selkies must endure, the call to mate with a human and ensure the survival of their kind, is it real? If so, will it claim Brendan before Eviana even has a chance to try for happiness with him? Read Book #2 to learn what happens next in Eviana's adventure. Good for young adult, females, some violence, sexual content, and uses of magic/mind control. Themes of family, relationships, betrayal, loss.

originally appeared on: Bookshelf ConfessionsDISCLAIMER: Don’t dare read this if you ahven’t picked up book 1, PROMISES just yet. Check out my review here.Just like the first, the cover is still pretty.. Love that the blue got darker and it feels more turbulent, like the storm is brewing. Although judging from the former, I like the simplicity and eerie beauty of Promises:DBETRAYAL has a great plot that turned the whole series upside-down. I never guess the twist and turns that happened. It caught me off guard, confused me as to who I should believe and be aware of- it simply stunned me how Amber Garr managed to sneak on me..lol..The characters develop so much from the first time I met them in PROMISES. It’s like I’m reading a new person and yet their unique personalities managed to stay the same. Kain? Why are you so..so..kind and understanding, sweet and a loyal friend. Sometimes I want to kick Eviana to make her realize what she’s missing. And what did Brendan do, that make me from ignoring him to hating him, gosh Eviana, don’t’ waste your time winning that dork back..:D And Eviana, although missing Brendan was becoming a good and reliable leader. She matures just enough to take on the role, decide for her people and balanced it with her boy issues. Yeah, so much has changed. If it was tormenting to choose between Kain and Brendan before, guess what? Eviana now have to face three (3), all-too-good-to-be-true boys. The addition of Graham, makes me want to share half of my votes from Kain :D. He’s the depiction of bad/mysterious and definitely hot male character.Compared to the first book, BETRAYAL is more fast-paced, enemy attacks being thrown from time to time, which becomes deadly by the minute. The story progresses on like music sounding louder and louder and tenser and tenser. This is an exciting and darker story, that would leave your jaws dropping. **can’t believe what Amber did at the last chapter**BETRAYAL was so much better than what I expected this series would go. This ends in a cliffhanger that would totally want you to grab book 3, ARISE, immediately. If you’re in for some charmingly attractive boys plus a war brewing among merpeople, then BETRAYAL’s for you. A story of love, betrayal, friendship, adventure, a choice, a stand and action-filled that I would highly recommend to everyone!!!

As with the first book I loved the pace of the story, there was never a dull moment. I was almost on the edge of my seat the whole time wanting to know what was going to happen. Quite a few things that I was not at all expecting. Loved this one just as much as Promises, if not more. Eviana is sent away to try and strengthen her powers in preparation for the upcoming war. Attacks are happening everywhere, harming, and even killing, some of Eviana's friends and family, Lucian is behind it all and he is still after Eviana, but why? As I think everyone has, based on the title I assumed that someone was going to betray Eviana in this book. Although there turned out to be more than just one betrayal, I had a suspicion of a particular person right from the beginning (which turned out to be right), but throughout the book I just couldn't be sure. I had no idea what to expect, and that was something I really enjoyed. After the first book in the series we knew (or at least I assumed) there was a particular reason Lucian wanted Eviana, and while a reason was revealed to us, I am still not sure if it is the whole reason. So I can't wait to start the next book Arise and find out what is going to happen. I can't really think of much to say about the characters. I think we definitely got to see Brendan's love for Eviana more in this book and understand him more as character, but I do not like Brendan any more. I can understand his situation, but I still don't like him. I like Kain's character, and am hoping to see a romance develop between him and Eviana in the next book, I guess we'll just have wait to see. Graham was a new character introduced to the story in Betrayal. While I liked his character, and the flirting with Eviana was fun, I felt a bit like if Eviana was so in love with Brendan then she wouldn't be so attracted to Graham. So that was all a little weird for me. I enjoyed this book just as much as the first one, should definitely check it out if you have read Promises, and if you haven't I would highly recommend you give it a go. I am super excited to get started on Arise. Thank you so much to the author, Amber Garr, for sending me a copy. Having tons of fun with this series. This review is also on my blogThe Confessions of a Book Nerd :)

What worked: Again, another series that doesn't fall prey to the second book curse. Eviana has to deal with her new responsibilities as the co-leader of the clan and her own grief at the same time. Not only that but (view spoiler)[the poor lass has been dumped by her boyfriend (hide spoiler)]. I'm finding it difficult to give Betrayal a review because it was just so....brilliant! It had everything you could want: the right amount of pace, twists and turns, another hottie by the name of Graham, honesty, witty comebacks and betrayal of course!Eviana is really fleshed out in this book, you get to see her more playful and sarcastic side (which I love!). You get to see her at the highest of her highs and the lowest of the lows. A lot of lesser heroines would have crumpled by now but this girl just keeps shaking herself off and dealing with it. Amber deals with Eviana's inner turmoil so beautifully, every decision and thought she has just resounds with me!The writing is exactly as I remembered - crafted to perfection and gripping! More creatures are added to the Syrenka world as well as some pretty cool powers. What I liked even more is that the current residents of the Syrenka world are built on as well. You learn more about Selkies, mermaids and our favourite characters make more appearances: Abhainn, Malcolm, even Jeremiah! ;)What irked: I need to find a beach and grow a tail because blimey, Eviana is beating them off with a stick! Love triangles frustrate me but how would you like a love SQUARE?! Yeah that's right, three guys are chasing after our beloved heroine. Lucky beggar....If I knew that would be the case before I started Betrayal, I probably would have sighed, palm to the face and snarked through the book. Want to know the worst part? I did ALL OF THAT but the love square worked. Possibly for the first time ever, my "irking" section isn't technically an irk. What irks me is that I don't have three hotties pining for me! Eviana is a real gem though and handles it really well so I'll forgive the lucky devil ;)Recommended to: Fans of mythical creatures and it's a given that you need to read Promises first! Taking into account my whole review and the fact that Amber Garr pulled off a Love Square so well while making me write an irk that is actually an irk about MYSELF, I would give this book....***5 Stars - My mind is in bits on the floor, that's how good this book is!***

4.5 heartsIf you haven't read book one there's no way around spoilers in my review. So read book one first! Betrayal is a transitional book in this series of mermaids and other paranormal creatures of the aqueous persuasion . The first book introduced the hidden society with a big bang. In the mist of the war brewing, we are introduced to the infrastructure of the mer political dictators. We see the strategies of building of armies while perfecting powers of the royal duo in the aftermath of Eviana returning home and living the leadership role she was destined to entitle. You can feel a much larger scheme brewing and this is only the quiet before that storm. Another leading heartthrob enters the story named Graham. This playboy and leads me to believe Eviana will forever be attracted to men who smell like “trouble”. Brendan comes back into the picture with forgiveness in his heart. Kain comes around also. While he hasn't forgiven her he sends mix messages that would imply an impending reconciliation. There is confusion among all the love interests. It's fun how the the interations between each suitor toys with the reader so much that's it's hard to know which way the tide will turn. The characters continue to grow in this book and even Eviana seems to have aged far beyond the impulsive teen from book one. I continue to marvel at the ingenious plot of this series. I admit a little disappointed that a few parts were a bit predictable. The way things played out weren't however, while a tad heartless. True to the title, Eviana is betrayed and boy is it BAD on so many different levels! The ending is shocking! I seriously sat, for an uncalculated amount of time, blind eyed facing the white walls with a million fins running trough my head. One thing that I can say after reading two books by Amber Garr is her writing grabs your addition from the very first paragraph and you will not stop reading until you are done. Even if you are forced to pause, you feel guilty.....and simply compelled to pick the book back up until you're finished. it is absolutely addicting. I am a junkie for the next book.*Big thanks to the author for entrusting me with an honest review.

If you have not read Promises...it's probably best to not read my review, due to spoilers of the first book.............In the short time since Promises left off, Eviana has had to grow up quick after losing her parents and her boyfriend. Eviana and Kain may be back on speaking terms; at least enough to lead their clans, but their relationship is nowhere near where it once was. She still has feelings for Brendan, her selkie ex-boyfriend, but what was up with that almost kiss with her and Kain? And now let’s add another hunky merman to the mix that is also vying for Eviana’s affection. What’s a girl to do?Well thanks to Lucian, Eviana doesn’t have a lot of time to devote to sorting out her guy problems. Lucian is hell bent on destroying clans until he has full control over all the merfolk and selkies and war is on the horizon. So now Eviana and all the clans are preparing for a battle that they just might lose. When I finished Promises I was all ‘Whoo Team Kain’ but now after being introduced to debonair Graham, my heart tried making a u turn. But it’s still holding firm with Kain. Ok Amber…why are you bringing in another hottie for us to gush over? As if 2 weren’t enough, let’s throw another one in. And sure I like Brendan and glad he is back in the picture, blah blah blah, but I love me some Kain and even after all that happens (wink wink) I still like Graham. How can I explain Graham? Well you know bad boy Adrain from Vampire Academy? Yeah that’s sorta what Graham is like. Nom Nom on a stick, or fin really. Amber's writing swept me up from the get go in Betrayal. I loved every second in her world of mermaids and was so glad to be back in it. Know what else I loved…where she is taking the story. Lots of action, fighting and ‘betrayal’ happen in this one and I am certain much more is to come in book 3. Do you like cliffhangers? Yeah Betrayal ends in a whopper of one. Good grief I am giddy with how it all ended. Well played Amber, well played! So with the end of this review there is only one question that remains, well 2….WHEN IS THE NEXT BOOK and WHEN CAN I GET MY HANDS ON IT??

“Betrayal” is the second book in the Syrenka trilogy. It takes off a few days after where ‘Promises’ ended and is followed by Arise.Eviana is back with her clan where she has taken her rightful place of that of the leader. While she has to prove to the clan members that she is capable, she also has to prepare herself for the war. She and Kain have a plan, but for that to work, she has to convince the Council that she is strong enough. But the council has their own plans and they decide that she needs a bit of training and sends her to a formally shunned member of their community. And oh! They also decide that the youngest council member, who also happens to be handsome and charming, should accompany her. Things start to spiral from there. Will Eviana be able to convince the council to take an offensive stance on the looming war? Will she be able to live up to the expectations of her clan? Before I say anything else, I just have to say this – in this installment I lost patience with Eviana when it came to her love life. It was like she is attracted to any good looking guy around her even though she keeps chanting to herself that her heart belongs to Brendan! I felt like smacking her throughout the book! Okay, I am done with my ranting… Now more about the book…Unexpected attacks and twists keep the readers on the edge. If you thought that the twists in book one were surprising, then let me warn you that they are nothing compared to what the author has in store for her readers in this book. There’s a lot more action in this book than in Promises. That certainly spices things up for the readers. We get to learn more about the inhabitants of this amazing fantasy world – their characteristics, their powers and their weaknesses. It was entertaining to see the dynamics between Kain and Eviana as they discovered and nurtured their individual powers. Some of the characters in the book will surprise you.All in all, keeping Eviana’s love life out of it, I really enjoyed this book. Ms.Amber has done it again and for that I would certainly recommend this book to the people with interest in the fantasy world!

Review originally published here: http://www.iheartreading.net/book-rev...Betrayal is the second book in the Syrenka Series. I reviewed the first book in the series, Promises, last week. I enjoyed reading Promises, but I enjoyed Betrayal even more. The pacing is a lot more relentless in this book, the characters are vibrant and entertaining and well, I absolutely loved Graham. He was the perfect amount of bad boy thrown in an attractive body and with some nice quircks. I also loved Eviana’s progress here, as she changed from a bit of a egocentrical, stubborn teenager into a more mature woman. Some parts of the book were a bit predictable, I give you that. And everyone seems to magically fall in love with Eviana. First Kain and Brendan, and now Graham as well. But it didn’t annoy me as much as I thought it would. I kind of figured out the whole Lucian deal in book one, so I was glad when that part was wrapped up.Eviana has to come to terms with her powers to control the minds of humans and sea creatures. The Council is impressed with her powers but not enough to trust her in the war against Lucian. She’s send to train with a man she despises and who uses humans, sprites, protectors, and what not to do his bidding. Meanwhile, Brendan returns and Eviana hopes they’ll get a second chance, even if the odds are against them. She has an alliance with Kain, and they work together even though he seems to be unable to stand being near her. I liked her spirit, and how she always refused to give up.I’m looking forward to the third book in the series, the grand finale. So far I’ve been pleasantly surprised by the writing style, the world building and the lore crafted into these books. The characters have yet to fully convince me though, as does the plot. I enjoyed these books, but I’m crossing my fingers and hoping the plot stays strong and decent during the last one.

Eviana Dumahl went through a whirlwind of heartache in the first book of the Syrenka series. Now in this this second installment, ‘Betrayal’ Eviana is back with her family and friends. She now has to take her role as clan leader now that her parents have been brutally murdered by a crazy mermaid. Eviana and Kain settle into their clan leader roles and go on to meet the council, which are the head of the mermaids, in order to discuss what to do in their battle against their biggest villain Lucian Sutherland. This book has no shortage of drama or action. Eviana unravels some of the mysterious behind Lucian’s intentions but the question is will she be able to handle it or will she let it destroy her?I am absolutely in love with this series I wish they would make them into movies! Those would be amazing to see on the big screen! As you know if you read my review of the first book, ‘Promises’ I did like Brendan but a big part of me hoped for Eviana and Kain to get together. Well ‘Betrayal’ totally changed my view on Brendan; I no longer like him at all. I think his actions in the second book are very selfish and childish and I really hope Eviana is done with him because now he just grates on my nerves. I absolutely adore Kain and I believe him and Eviana belong together. I did love all the drama the love triangle caused though. There’s also another man introduced into Eviana’s life in this one his name is Graham and he is a council member. He also plays a very big role in this book.I don’t want to give you too many spoilers because this is just too good of a book but I just loved and devoured this book in two days. There was so much happening that I did not see coming it kept me hooked and on the edge of my seat. This series really is dynamite! It was a very fresh read for me, very unique and very enjoyable. I cannot wait to sink my teeth into the final installment in this series!Amber Garr is definitely one to be on the lookout for.

Title : BetrayalSeries : The Syrenka Series 2 Author : Amber GarrPages : 255Release Date : Feb 20th 2012Publisher : Self-pubFormat : PaperbackSource : **This copy was provided by the author in exchange of an honest review**My Opinion :Promises by Amber Garr wasn't necessarily my favorite mermaid book, although it was really good. But, Betrayal seemed more drama-filled. I liked Betrayal better!Sometimes life as a mermaid can be suffocatingBetrayal picks up not too long after Promises left off. But now, Eviana is co-leader of her clan with Kain, her parents are dead, and Brendan has left her. Talk about change! And, with the war against Lucian getting harder and bloodier, Eviana and Kain has to figure out a way to convince the Coucil about not accepting Lucian's offers. But, what if betrayal, love, and family gets in the way?Betrayal is filled with juicy drama you don't want to miss!Amber Garr's writing is fast-paced and is really entertaining, although some times the book didn't have enough action in it for me.I think it would a little too far of a stretch to say that I can relate to Eviana, because :1) I still have my parents2) I have never been in love3) I haven't ran away from any guy4) I don't have a mean sister- or any sister at all5) I'm not a mermaid clan leader that's in war (although, I wish I was a mermaid)So, relating to characters is something high on my list of 'What Makes a Great Book' (which, isn't really a list), BUT, I have to say I did like her as a character even though I can't relate to her.Of course, before starting the book, I knew that someone would betray her (because of the title), and so I was searching for who might. And, I wasn't really surprised that it was that person :DYou definitely want to add the Syrenka series to your to-read list! I also really like the covers in this series!RATING4 roses

Firstly, Ms. Amber Garr, please please please stop with all the yummy Guys you are throwing my way!!! I was totally torn apart in the first book (Promises), I don’t need to be completely splintered. Seriously, Brendan is just hot and the love of Eviana’s life. Kain is gorgeous and what’s not to love when the guy is just so gentle, generous, warm and loving?! And OMG, Graham is Bad-Boy-Licious with a to-die-for accent! How’s a girl to choose? I’m glad that’s not my job Eviana went home without Brendan to assume her responsibility as her clan leader. She may be determined to be a good & strong leader but reality is she is young with no training whatsoever. On top of that, she’s just lost (hopefully temporarily but it still hurts) the love of her life. She is in a pretty bad spot right about now. Things are about to get any better though as Lucian Sutherland wants her back. The youngest member of the Council, Graham Forrester, shows every sign of being a dissipated young soul with some strong powers. He is also very attractive and Eviana is troubled by this attraction. He, however, has no compunction about his attraction to her and is willing to play the game.I’m loving this book! I’m loving the story and am loving Eviana. She is strong but there were moments of weaknesses. I’m happy that her vulnerability isn’t hidden but is known to her friends & supporters. I have to admit I wasn’t a tad surprised when I found out why Lucian wanted Eviana and was slightly disappointed though I couldn’t really see any other reason… and Eviana is still the only fully developed character with pretty much 99% of the book focused on her. Well, I didn’t mind it so much in this book as I was really drawn to the story & to Eviana although I do wish to have had that few sneak peeks into Brendan or Kain or even Marisol. I really want to know what make Kain tick!

The following review is my opinion and not a paid review. I recieved a copy of Betrayal from the author Amber Garr via Bewitching Book Tours blog tour for The Syrenka Series.Eviana has taken over as the leader of her clan because her mother was murdered by a man who wants to be the leader of all the clans. Who is this man? Lucian Sutherland. Lucian wants to control all of the merfolks. He is an evil merman. He has powers that most merfolk don't have. Lucian wants to control the world. He wants to control everyone like the merfolk, the humans, selkies ect...Brendan doesn't go with Eviana when she returns home because he needs to spend time alone without Eviana it is a selkie thingy. Brendan never wants to hurt her and he thinks that leaving her will be the best thing that he can ever do for Eviana because of how much he loves her.The council wants to meet with Eviana for a demonstration of her powers. They want her to show them what she can do and find out how powerful she may be. When they see what she can do they order her to train with a merman that she has met before and does not like or approve of how he uses his gifts or powers. But this merman can help Eviana more than she knows.Eviana meets someone else that she is attracted too. She meets Graham a member of the council and a merman. Graham is a very hot and sexy dude but Eviana and Graham are attracted to each other because of their bloodlines not because of any feelings that come from their heart. What do we have here? We have a what would you call it, a love triangle , maybe. Who is Eviana really in love with? Is it Kain, Brendan or Graham?Betrayal is the second book in The Syrenka Series and it is just as good if not better than the first book in the series Promises.

I'm really excited to be reading Betrayal after I finished reading Promises (Book 1) because I really want to find out more about Eviana, especially when she just assumed the position of the Clan Leader. I immediately linked Brendon to the title of the second book, so I sort of guessed what will be happening. Nevertheless, that did not deter me from reading the book. The most important thing is that there is a new character (or many) in book 2 and that brought some new surprises which spice up the book a lot! *squee* Welcome the charming Graham! *swoons* I love reading the interaction between Eviana and Graham! He's so totally hot!I still enjoy reading about Eviana and Kain. We get to know about Eviana's cousin, Palmer, who is her protector and instructor for martial arts. The danger is still lurking around and Eviana has to do all she can to prepare herself. She was summoned before the Council because they learned about her newfound ability. Decisions were made and then there were attacks... The sad part? Lots of people were injured... *sniff*There's actions throughout the whole book so you'll be thoroughly entertained. The attacks keep coming and Eviaina and group kept defending and training. Who will win ultimately? When I got to the end, I was totally shocked! I never imagined that things will turn out to be that way! It's a pleasant surprise. Betrayal is so read-worthy. If you haven't read the series, be sure to start with Promises! I recommend it everyone who love to read about powerful kick-ass heroine. Disclosure: I received a review copy from the author in exchange for an honest review.

'Betrayal' is the darker and more exciting second book of the Syrenka trilogy that brings mythological sea creatures to life. It continues to focus on Eviana, our heroine of the series, as well as her clan members and friends. After returning home after her parents were killed and her heart was broken, Eviana must join the war against Lucian Sutherland and also must find her destined place among her people.I found this book to be just as fast-paced and fun with lots of adventure and great fantasy characters as the first book of the series. I haven't read many mermaid fiction before, and I found it interesting how the author presented the mermaid culture and their history. I also loved how she continues to incorporate other mythological sea creatures into the narrative - like water sprites, selkies, and naiads. They brought a unique and refreshing feel to the mermaid genre in young adult fiction. The author went a bit deeper into merfolk culture and society with this installment, which I found to be really riveting.Like the first book of the series, this story was somewhat predictable but had great twists that I didn't see coming. I easily reconnected to Eviana and easily identified with her early in the story. The ending was a good fit for a second book in a series - it doesn't leave the ending too closed and it doesn't leave too many questions unanswered either. All in all, 'Betrayal' is a great continuation to a fun and interesting series. Fans of paranormal YA fiction and mermaid lore will love this series.Disclosure: I received a copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

Seeing Double In Neverland's Review:We always get nervous after a really great first book if the rest of the series is going to continue to meet the expectations that have been set. Amber Garr proved with Betrayal that she can and did, she far exceeded our expectations with this amazing sequel. It was flirty, full of action, and made you feel so many different emotions!Eviana has come back broken and alone. She has to patch up the mess she left in the wake of her absence. Brandon wants time to sort things out. Eviana gave up everything and has a hard time with Brandon's decision. With power hungry enemies Eviana has to get it together and fast.Eviana has to prove herself to the counsel. In the process hopes to win back Brandon. Then enters the new hotty Graham. With his accent and flirtatious ways. You will be swooning. When Graham is forced to to accompany her while Eviana trains so she can reach her potential and stop anyone else she cares about from getting hurt, things definitely heat up!We loved this book. It is the most beautiful mermaid world. We am still in love with Kain, but Graham will definitely have you swooning and heart stop a few beats! I mean who doesn't love someone who is sure of himself, at least sometimes! But Kain is still my book boyfriend!!! We love the fact that Kain finds his power and new sense of strength. This is a great book series and we highly recommend picking it up. We am giving this book 5 out of 5 stars! Amber did not disappoint with this 2nd book.

If the first book in this series, Promises, was good, the second one was even better. I think it was an amazing continuation of Eviana's story. In Betrayal we find a more mature Eviana, one that is trying to cope with everything that has happened to her. I admired her a lot in this book. Her parents are dead, she becomes clan leader and tries to stop a war, she's supposed to take care of her younger sister and her boyfriend left for God knows how long. I'd be terrified, angry. She was too, but she didn't let that fear and anger take over her. She found her strength in those feelings. What's not to admire? There was this moment where my heart broke for Eviana and I felt so much anger towards the people hurting her. I'm very curious how will she deal with those people in Arise, the final book in this trilogy.I loved the pacing. There's always something happening, usually something surprising. I liked that a lot, the fact that I couldn't predict anything. I have to admit that I thought the traitor was someone else entirely. So I was very surprised when I saw how wrong I was. But I loved that. And I love that we get to meet some new creatures and learn more about the syrenkas and their world.I love the cover (if you haven't noticed yet, this series has amazing covers!) and I think it's perfect for Betrayal.I have to find out what happens next and how the story ends. If you haven't read this series yet, don't wait any longer. It's amazing!

I love this series! Amber Garr is an amazing writer! I love the different mythical creatures created by Amber Garr, and the attention to detail. I also really like the way she makes you care for every character, even if sometimes they are not always good, you feel for them.... Eviana is the main character in the book, she is a mermaid who has in the past been struggling with her own desires and her duties. Eviana is in love with a Silkie named Brendan, which is not excepted by most. Kain is a merman who has always been in love with Eviana and their parents betrothed them to each other to unit their clans since Eviana and Kain are both next in line to be leaders. Kain is strong and a good friend who is always their for Eviana, he is so in love with her. ...Then there is a third Graham, he to is interested in Eviana. Graham is a merman and a counsel member who is cocky and self confident. Eviana is for some reason drawn to this bad boy and has to spend a lot of time with him....This book was so amazing and has so many more twists and turns. There are so man more characters that I did not discuss that were so great and that I loved so please pick up this great book and read it, you will not be disappointed!!!

Betrayal is book 2 in the Syrenka series and starts a few weeks after the end of Promises (book 1 in the Syrenka series). For some reason I enjoyed reading Betrayal a little bit more than I did Promises. I don’t know if it is because you really see Eviana grow as a character or if it was the plot twists. Either way this is a highly enjoyable book!Eviana is now the clan leader due to her parent’s recent death. She is trying to do her best in this new position of leadership all the while dealing with the fact her boyfriend Brandon isn’t with her. The Council ships her back to Jeremiah’s house so she can learn how to use her powers. Graham, who is the youngest member of the Council, accompanies her there in order to keep her safe. Then Lucian starts attacking the mermaid clans again and Eviana knows she has to do something to stop him.Betrayal is a nicely paced paranormal adventure story with a bit of romance thrown in. I found myself unable to put it down until I finished it. That is how much I liked it!

Can they get the help and defend themselves as Lucien gets one step closer to his goal? .With a cliffhanger that will have your jaw dropped, this book will have you jumping straight to the next one in no time. Great story. Two thumbs up.

I have to say that I am completely addicted to this series! I finished the first book in 2 days, then immediately jumped into the 2nd book which I also read in 2 days. The pacing in this book is amazing – just like in the first. I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to know what would happen next. Eviana’s character is really blossoming and I like her more and more as I read. Garr added in some new characters in this book. One in particular whom I like a lot is Graham. He is witty and sarcastic and adds a fun element to the book. Garr does a great job with creating unique characters. Again, there is plenty of mermaid folklore and a lot of mythical creatures. The book ends with a cliffhanger that will leave you wanting more!I liked this book even more than the first and I can’t wait to find out what will happen in the third.

no this book is not perfect but i am completely so sucked into this world Ms Amber Garr has created that i bought the whole series to read. the second book left me on such a cliffhanger! i am so happy Kain got screentime with Eviana. hes so sweet and devoted despite what she did to him. He deserves more really but i cant blame Eviana for loving Brendan. I never really loved Brendan as much as Kain but i was saddened by what had to happen. not gonna say anymore or itll be spoilers but Kain fans may rejoice somewhat. Then there was also the addition of Graham who was oh so bad boy sexy. i didnt wanna like him but hes so darn charming! i can see how he can sway Eviana's heart..heck even i was somewhat swayed from my Kain bias! This book certainly deserves a 5 star for engrossing me so deeply in the story. well now on to book 3!

Amber Garr has outdone herself. I am stupefied at how this series has unfolded. Betrayal has quite a bit of the unexpected and some twists that caught me off guard. I loved book one Promises and book two Betrayal is even better. Ms. Garr is creative and has such a great plot and character development. Eviana has grown and Kian as well, but have they grown closer? We also meet Graham and does Brandon come back? Does he stay? If you want to know pick up this book. I would love to see these books turned into movies. I think how things ended in Betrayal was a nicely done, but left me thinking I need to know what happens. This book can't be over yet. I am excited to read book three Arise. I am intrigued to see what happens with Eviana. A must read series. I would highly recommend this series to anyone who loves romance, adventure, the unexpectd twist, mystery and ya reading.

I enjoyed Promises but was slightly put out by Eviana's annoying, teenaged, egocentric mentality (I know, I know, she IS a teenager, she can't help it. I was there once, too). The story was good so I continued reading in Betrayal and was much more impressed. Eviana has grown up enough to be less annoying but not enough that she's lost all her innocence and free spirit. I'm starting to even enjoy her character. This book had every second of my free time consumed and felt way too short!! I was waiting and waiting for the twist in the story. I knew something was going to shake Eviana's reality. I have to admit the twist WAS an option I entertained but not the one I thought it was going to be :D I'm dying for Arise!
