The doodle as Odysseus. This sometimes reads like the author is making it up as he goes, which isn't as bad as that sounds. In fact, from an imagination as fertile as Radunsky's, it's really kind of great. You catch yourself wondering: which came first, the picture or the chapter? (There are ten of them here, plus a Foreword). Chapter 6: "I ran and ran and ran and ran and ran..." Chapter 7: Tremendous Belly, in which our hero decides whether he would really like to spend the rest of his life as a tattoo. If Radunsky doesn't always seem to have prepared his answers in advance - how, and why, will Dude escape from a coffee cup? A circus poster? A sidewalk? - the outcome is a journey more alive, and consistently surprising, than any destination. In Chagally-looking hues.

Why are you so skinny? What's the deal with those shoes? What awful graffiti you are, up on that wall! These are the things Dude hears everyday. Even the encouragement from the scrawl over his head, I Love You Dude, begins to wane after a while. So Dude leaves his wall to find other places to go. Coffee mugs are nice, until the are filled with boiling coffee. This city is a dangerous place for a doodle. Where will Dude go?

I never realized how tough it would be in the life of a doodle. This story takes you on a journey with Dude the doodle as he searches for his purpose in the world. This story would be great for readers aged 8-10.

Funny, kind of post-modern story about a doodle named Dude. As the cover says, it's a "long short story" probably best shared individually.

I am 20 and this is possibly one of my top favorite books. Also my comfort book. Gave it to my mom to read and she loves it more than I do.
